ACT Prep Class Helps Raise Scores
Emily Hacket Aurora News Register, December 8, 2010
John Baylor’s ACT test prep program has become increasingly popular among students. There are about 15 currently enrolled for the Dec. 11 ACT test date.
The program consists of twelve 45-minutes online sessions. There is also 10 to 20 minutes of homework to complete each evening. Students can come in before or after school each day.
Aurora has been offering John Baylor for three years and is the only school in the surrounding area to offer it to students at absolutely no cost. Guidance counselor Maggie Rasmussen said that the school really wants to keep this test prep option available to all students regardless of financial ability.
Senior Julia Harvey is taking John Baylor for the second time. She thought the program was especially helpful with the English and math portions of the test. “Overall, I got the same composite score but I was able to raise my score in the English section by four points” she said.
“Aurora students taking John Baylor have been raising their ACT scores twp or more points on average,” Mrs. Rasmussen said. “One student even managed to raise their score by eight points.”
