College Admission- more competitive than ever
Despite the current recession, colleges, particularly highly regarded private colleges, are seeing a huge jump in the number of applicants. Penn has experienced a 22% increase in applicants, largely from out of state students. These applicants are also more qualified than in the recent past. Schools now have the ability to be even more selective about who receives scholarships and who will be accepted. Minority applicants have also drastically increased. Students are broadening their application pool in hopes of the best possible financial aid package. All of this leads to a jump in competition, and a need for something that makes the student appear different from the other names in the pile. The ACT is the standard most colleges use to separate students that may appear similar. JBTP students are gaining that edge. On average, our students are experiencing a two point jump, and many have achieved an increase of five or more points. When a few points can determine who is accepted and who is rejected, an increased ACT score is more beneficial than ever.
